A Brief History

We’ve Come This Far By Faith

The Seminary, long couched in the mind and spirit of the Late Abuna The Most Eminent Reverend Dr. Herman

R. Cannady, Sr., Archbishop, Presiding Prelate, Moderator, Primate of North America, Prince of the Patriarchs, Vicar of Yahshua The Christ and Servant of the Servants of Yahweh, of the New Covenant Church of the Holy Spirit (Evangelical-Liturgical Ethiopian Orthodox), is an outgrowth of the New Rochelle Extension School of the Church of Christ Bible Institute. This latter school was founded by the Late The Rt. Reverend Maurice Hutner in 1950. At its inception the program was limited to Evangelical Teacher Training courses and Bible doctrine, and in 1958 it expanded to include a year’s Bible course.

In 1961, Archbishop Cannady, Sr. joined the staff as an instructor. Under his administration in 1963 the school took on new dimensions encompassing courses in Theology, a Department of Missions, Philosophy and New Testament Studies, and a secretarial training program. It was at that time the name changed to Christ The King Bibliocentric Institute.

In 1972, Christ Theological Seminary embarked upon a program of a full course of study in the field of Theology, expanding its horizon with a new thrust in religious education.

In 1975 it came under the auspices of the New Covenant Church of the Holy Spirit (Evangelical-Liturgical) to be recognized as the educational division of said connection.

The Seminary serves as the umbrella agency for a network of schools, including seminaries and training centers, covering a multinational Christian community. Christ Theological Seminary originally maintained administrative offices and instructional facilities in New Rochelle, New York.

In the latter half of 1981, these offices and facilities were moved to the Archiepiscopal Seat, Yonkers, New York. Guides for curriculum, program planning and requirements for certificates are issued from these offices; however, each affiliate school or center controls the mechanics of its own operation.

The Seminary is validated and accredited through and by the Eastern Theological Consortium, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the academic community offering qualified personnel to serve the Seminary and its numerous schools in teaching, lecturing, technical and consultant capacities.
